The Himalayas of Nepal can be sub-divided into five tectonic zones from south to north. The Himalayan range is about2400K.M long and extends from the Indus river of Pakistan in the west to Assam in the east. Hagen was the earliest research contributor, who had worked in the Himalayas, to propose the geologic and physiographic subdivision of the Himalayas. The geological subdivision of Nepal according to Hagen are:-
I)v Terai Zone.
ii) Sub-Himalayas or churia zone.
iii) Lesser Himalayan Zone.
iv) Higher Himalayan Zone.
v) Tibetan-Tethys Zone.
Lesser Himalayan zone of Nepal forms the major geological zone and is important in majority of hill population point of view.
Most of the population of Nepal is concentrated in hilly area. We can say that Nepal is the country of villages as most of the population of Nepal lives in village area. To conduct the administrative works more efficiently and to provide the required facilities to the people on their own village, Nepal is divided into the village Development committees(VDC’s). there are 3915 VDC’s in Nepal.
